about Von Robinson and His Own Universe
Von Robinson & His Own Universe (VR&HOU) is a New York-based solo musical project, whose creator, Von Robinson, surrounds himself with a rotating cast of fellow musicians to assist on recordings and live performances. Von’s songs resonate with an admiration for the qualities of individuals and a resistance to the institutions and man-made establishments that have the ability to grossly distort those qualities. The lyrics have a social and political backbone but are most often dressed up with a tongue-in-cheek delivery ripe for The Daily Show generation.
During George Bush Sr.'s presidency Robinson began writing politically charged music largely informed by the writings of Kurt Vonnegut (who, like Von, hails from Indianapolis, In.). After establishing a successful design career, Von was whiplashed into a madly prolific musical dèja vous by G.W. Bush Jr.'s second election campaign. The song, Satellites and Totem Poles, is about such a campaign. Von’s work drew the attention of several Williamsburg, Brooklyn producers; with Alex Lipsen at Headgear studios, he completed the Jostle It!# ¢ sessions, which led to the formation of VR&HOU.
Von and the band are currently playing shows on the east coast, and with the EP, Jostle It!# ¢ set for release on January 16, 2007, Von Robinson is poised to be the subversive next big thing. With his lyric driven, pop-tastic tunes, VR&HOU breathe a much-needed sense of contagious optimism into today’s climate, which we all know we share.
