about Tonia
Tonia Pinheiro is an improvisational singer, actor, group facilitator and ritual leader in the Boston area. She's been singing since the Indigos, a pop and R&B band she co-founded in the late '60s. She is founder of East Coast Chant (eastcoastchant.com) and is a principal and actor with True Story Theater (truestorytheater.org) performing in over 140 shows since 2003. She has studied improvisational acting with Daena Giardella, has received vocal instruction from Pamela Wood, and improvisational singing instruction from Rhiannon and Joey Blake (soloists and members of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra, WeBe3 and SoVoSo).
East Coast Chant is a divinely-inspired, tapestry of contemporary music, rhythms, chants, spontaneous dance, imagery, healing and world service woven with threads of light by everyone present. East Coast Chant creates a spiritual container for individual and group immersion into Soul. It is subtle activism and higher consciousness entertainment in the form of musical performance, audience participation, healing ritual and planetary service which creates a joyful, expressive, transformative experience for everyone.

Mark Nathanson is a quiet, multi-talented, musician who produces evocative moods and rhythms with his guitar, string & percussion instruments, and voice. Mark joined East Coast Chant in July 2009. Other Musicians: Joel Cohen is a world class cellist and founding member of 3 time Grammy-nominated Quartet San Francisco. Joel plays with us when he's on the East Coast. Paul Rodriguez is a warm talented guitarist who played with East Coast Chant during the 2008-2009 season.
