The Thoughts

about The Thoughts

Individually, we are many things: bookish, punctual, early risers, obsessive coffee drinkers, lovers of both the urban and wild worlds. One of us is a sports fan. One of us is prone to tedious art projects. One of us consumes more honey than any other living soul on the planet. We love that when stirred together, we make beautiful music.

The Thoughts came about in 2007 when Ian Williams (vocals, guitar) and Jon Horwath (drums) joined with Katie Mosehauer (violin, harp) to play songs that are pretty, lush, intimate, and unexpected.

Lonely, sailing melodies rub and stretch between violin and voice and give way to cascading, rolling percussion. Beautiful ideas are challenged by the raw and primal creating songs filled with tension, emotion, and occasional resolution.

The band has been building international momentum, with their first full length release, I Won’t Keep You Here, earning rotation at over 140 college and non-commercial/community radio stations across the U.S. and Canada with peaks at #2 in WVYC, #4 at WONC, #12 at KTCU and many other Top 30’s across the North America.

The international blogosphere has also taken notice of I Won’t Keep You Here, with reviews published in over 10 languages, sparking CD sales to even more countries over five continents (we’re hoping to win over some listeners in Africa any day now). The Thoughts began touring in the summer of 2011 and have regularly scheduled time on the road every few months since.

Ghost, their new acoustic EP, is a 4-song collection where Mosehauer’s string arrangements create alternating atmospheres of winter, the night sky, hope, and yearning, pushing and pulling at Williams’ lyrical songs, firmly-centered on the subject of death and memory. Recorded at their home studio, the stripped-down production yields an emotionally-driven immediacy that further informs the work.

The band is planning to begin production on their next full studio production in the fall of 2012.
