Nkeng Alemanji, principal of Songs From Above, grew up in Yaounde, the capital city of Cameroon, W. Africa, writing songs since age 12. His parents moved the family to Canada when he was 7 months old and Nkeng lived in Toronto until he was 3 and ½. There, he soaked up the music of singer/songwriters like Paul Simon and John Denver, who’s records his parents listened to, and also music from groups like ABBA. In addition, Nkeng’s mom, a country music fan, introduced Nkeng to the music of artists like Don Williams, and Dolly Parton. Nkeng says listening to these artists, is where he first learned about the art of songwriting.

Well-traveled and multi-lingual (fluent in French, and studying Vietnamese & Japanese) Nkeng now lives in Northern Virginia. I'm getting famous, and growing popular

You might want to work with me if you need a songwriter/producer who creates really catchy work. Or if you just want to sit around, talk about the world, politics, religion :-) that too is good. We could go to Joburg (Johannesburg, S.Africa) or we could go to Can Tho (Vietnam) or we could just chill in Old Town (Alexandria, VA) - your pick.

I'm getting famous and growing popular by doing what I love. I have recorded and worked with so many diverse artists and groups (The Russian Chamber Art Society, the Washington Chu Shan Chinese Opera) in varying genres... I love it though - I love it.

I plan to release an artist in the coming months, Brother Bert, who will be singing as his debut single, "You Remind Me" - the tribute song to Dr. King. It is a song that I wrote in 2003 (though I started to write it in 2002) - and I completed it on Dr. King's birthday holiday weekend. I believe his spirit was with me when I was composing it - we'll see if that's true based on how successful the song gets - I think it's going to be huge - as in HUGE! - I think it's going to break and set all kinds of records... especially with this new music age we're in now - the internet broadcasting age of music, I think this is the best time to be doing brave things music-wise or other wise...
