about Iron Horse
Iron Horse was formed in 2000 in the famous hit recording capital of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The band consists of four members including Vance Henry, guitar, lead & tenor vocals; Anthony Richardson, banjo, baritone & bass vocals; Ricky Rogers, bassist, baritone & lead vocals; and Tony Robertson, mandolin, lead & tenor vocals. The bands roots go back to the late 1970’s, when Tony Robertson and Ricky Rogers were charter members of the popular local group, “The Next in Line”. Through the years and after involvement with several groups, the present band was born as a result of the participation of Tony Robertson, Vance Henry and Ricky Rogers in the Jake Landers Band. In December 2002, Anthony was asked to fill an opening for a banjo player and the present Iron Horse configuration evolved. Iron Horse creates much of its own music, with an innate ability for cross-genre arrangements. Iron Horse has three self-produced albums, “Ridin’ Out the Storm”, containing fourteen songs, with ten previously un-released compositions, six of which are Iron Horse-composed originals, “New Tracks”, which contains several original and previously unreleased compositions, and “Small Town Christmas”, to be released on October 2009, consisting of ten original, unreleased compositions. “Ridin’ Out the Storm” was released in December 2001. Iron Horse was approached in January 2003 by Los Angeles-based CMH Records to record a tribute album to the heavy metal band, Metallica, which was released in October 2003. Be sure to check on-line or at Wal-Mart Stores for the Iron Horse CD “Fade to Bluegrass: The Bluegrass Tribute to Metallica”. Also look for “Black & Bluegrass: The Bluegrass Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne”, released in March 2004 on CMH Records. A third CMH project, “Pickin’ on Modest Mouse”, released in November 2004, is also available on-line. Iron Horse has also completed a fourth project, “Whole Lotta Bluegrass”, a tribute to Led Zeppelin, released in February 2005. Recording for “Fade to Bluegrass: Volume 2”, a second tribute to Metallica, was completed in Spring 2005 and released on January 2006. Iron Horse released their second self-produced recording entitled “New Tracks” in the summer of 2005. “New Tracks” and “Ridin’ Out the Storm” are both available at CD Baby at cdbaby.com. Iron Horse appeared on a CMH-produced compilation CD as part of a tribute to Van Halen. “The Southern Side of Van Halen”, featuring David Lee Roth, Blue Highway, The Nashville Bluegrass Band, Mountain Heart, David Grisman, John Cowan, Iron Horse and other bluegrass heavy-hitters was released on June 6, 2006. Additional releases include a re-release of the Modest Mouse tribute with four new tracks, entitled “Something You’ve Never Heard Before”. Other projects are “Life, Birth Bluegrass: The Bluegrass Tribute to Black Label Society”, “The Bluegrass Tribute to the Shins”, “The Gospel According to Hank Williams” and “The Bluegrass Tribute to Guns ‘n Roses”. A new tribute CD to the Goo Goo Dolls is scheduled to be released in September 2009 through CMH Records. All of the Iron Horse CD releases are available from their website.
Iron Horse has toured throughout the United States, as well as the Bahamas, Netherlands, Belgium and France.
