about Oncue
During the commercials of Scooby-Doo and Power Rangers, 5 year old Geoff "OnCue" Sarubbi began writing music. Growing up listening to his brother's favorite Hip-Hop cassettes, he slowly began to fall in love with the art form. Growing up in a suburb of Hartford, Connecticut his family and friends thought he was crazy when at age 11 he started mailing out multiple copies of home recorded demos to multiple independent companies on the east coast. "That's what everyone loved back then [about me], I was persistent, I wouldn't take 'no' for an answer", states OnCue.
After a few short stints with independent labels in the NYC area; OnCue focused on his craft with a MC named Conphlict. The two would record together on the weekends, at one time even recording 20 songs in a month. "I remember being in high school, and my boys would clown me that I was making records with this little kid; but I saw something in him, he was hardworking and loved what he did, now look at the dude" Conphlict recalls.
Continuing with his hard work ethic by age 16, the "little kid" began to shake up the local hip-hop scene, on his own. Cue blew the competition away during a local contest on WZMX Hot 93.7; Connecticut’s only urban radio station. Week after week, Cue would get votes, while going up against locally established artists in which fans would have to call up and vote for their favorite artist. After the victory, Cue went on to open for acts such as Jae Millz, Cory Gunz, Styles P., Jim Jones and more notable rappers. By age 18, Cue released 3 self-funded mixtapes with [Nore's A&R] DJ EFN, AOL Radio's DJ Head Honcho, Christopher Truth & Hot 93.7's own K-Dub. While going on to sell thousands of copies independently, OnCue began to utilize the internet, and created a growing buzz appearing on numerous online and print publications, off of the success of his MIMS-assisted record "Died In Your Arms".
In September of 2007, OnCue came in contact with Detroit-based producer Chanes and the two mutually respected each other's work and decided to create a mixtape entitled "Elevator Muzik". Now with more clout, the tape consists of records done with Obie Trice, MIMS, (G.O.O.D. Music's) Big Sean and more. The mixtape is tentatively set to drop in November; and is hosted by DJ Green Lantern and it should surely be enough to solidify OnCue as an artist to keep your eyes on in the near future. With a newly signed deal with the New York based imprint, KGB Music, Cue will definitely be the one everyone is talking about in a year's time. OnCue states "I’ve been at this for so long now; it seems like this is what I have to do, as if I don't have an option anymore. Music is what I eat, sleep, and breathe. All this latter success now has just reassured me, that I'm doing the right thing and that I was right all along."
