Larry Kuykendall

about Larry Kuykendall

Larry Kuykendall was born in Roswell, New Mexico, to parents Fate and Elaine Kuykendall. Larry was raised on the family farm in Dexter, New Mexico, and attended the local school graduating in 1965.

Larry Kuykendall received his bachelor degree in music from the University of Texas at El Paso. In 1972, he was the only candidate out of 800 vocal auditions to receive a full scholarship to the Metropolitan Opera Studios in New York (he eventually declined the scholarship). While living and teaching in El Paso, he met and married Elaine Oppenheim, a substitute teacher. Elaine had grown-up in El Paso and graduated from Life Bible College in California, and had recently returned from missions trips to Honduras and living on a kibbutz in Israel.

After their marriage, Larry wrote and recorded two Gospel albums and two songs went to #1 and #2 in radio test markets. One of these songs, What Kind of Man, was featured in a music video aired nationally by Jewish Voice Broadcast for several years. In 1995 and 1996, three songs were chosen to be performed in Jerusalem during the nation of Israel’s 3,000th birthday celebration, attended by Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, then Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Knesset and other world leaders.

After the birth of a daughter, Terah, and younger sister, Sarah, the family moved back to the Kuykendall family farm in Dexter, New Mexico. This was a blessing for the family, as they could be immersed in the musical heritage the Kuykendalls so richly possessed. Larry’s mother, August Elaine Kuykendall, was a symphony violinist who taught violin and piano lessons to the local youth. Larry’s siblings also exhibited deep musical talent and family gatherings were ripe with sound.

Larry’s wife, Elaine, passed away in March of 1991, after a long battle with breast cancer. Larry was remarried in December of 1993, to Rae Ann Greeson, and welcomed two stepsons into the family, James and John. Rae Ann has been an amazing source of encouragement and support to Larry, whose current project is a large-scale musical on the life of Christ, entitled Plan of the Ages.

Plan of the Ages is a muscial designed to be both spiritually and emotionally moving, as well as intellectually challenging. The objective is to glorify the Lord and lead as many as possible to salvation.

Mission Statement: Our mission is three-fold:

- To lead as many as possible to salvation
