Kung Fu Dropouts

about Kung Fu Dropouts

Recently formed in a suburban home of Beavercreek, Ohio, the Kung Fu Dropouts give new flavor to the music scene in a place that offers a rather dismal array of local artists. Originally performed by the two masterminds Ken Newman and Seth Lopez, the group has now grown to a quintet with Ken Carpenter on guitar, Dan Tenpas on bass and Jaison Nainaparampil on drums.

What sparked such a collaboration began as a bond between fellow hybrids, persons born of multi-racial ethnicities. This unity led to their expression through catchy melodies and dance-worthy beats to form a socially-oriented hip-hop with enigmatic indie rock. The vocally-superior Ken Newman manages to blend his pop-ish sound with the rather witty lyrics of Seth Lopez, KFD's mainstay vocalist/rapper. Performing on the piano as well, Newman spills out wonderfully upbeat rhythms that compliment the simple, yet complex riffs of guitarist Ken Carpenter.

After completing their hit-single, "Fat Chick Lover," the Kung Fu Dropouts are currently working on their new release, Try Sample. While they hope to gain popularity among local music-goers, the KFDs aim to entertain listeners with both quality sound and a bit of humor (though it may be at the expense of weight-challenged females).
