about K E R N R O A D
K E R N R O A D is simply two musician / singer - sonwriters who have a passion for writing what we believe is truely original, thought provoking, storybook music. Things seem to come pretty natural for us when it comes to writing and before we knew it we had alot of finished music. We felt we needed to get this stuff recorded so it wasn't forgotten and well, here we are 2 CD's later. Give it a listen. If you like what we're doing turn your friends and family onto us.
Forever Ride -
This song is about my passion for the old west and cowboy outlaws in particular. It was written about John "Doc" Holliday, Billy The Kid and Jesse James, but is a tribute to all the cowboy outlaws who have captured our hearts and filled our imaginations with tales of the old west!
Helpless -
This is a song about growing up as a young child with my abusive father. I spent many of nights outside my house with my neighbors as my Mom and Dad fought. This one particular night, I recalled how I felt hearing my Mom cry as my Dad hit her. All all I wanted to do was run to her, but I couldn't. It was the overwhelming feeling of how Helpless I felt that night that inspired this song.
Sarah -
This song is a fictional tale of a girl named Sarah and how she was killed by a drunk driver, but with a bit of a twist. It's from the driver’s perspective. He recalls everything he's heard about this girl and only wishes that he would have had the chance to know her under different circumstances.
Tolerance -
A song about my brother. I was frustrated with him and we had a fight where some harsh words were exchanged. I felt he had given up on life after his divorce and I was tired of seeing him drink his life away. I tried to put myself in his shoes and explain his pain the best I could and how he was disengaging from everyone who cared for him.
Drowning In -
Wow. Here was one of the first songs Mark and I wrote together. At the time, we called ourselves Encumber and really this song encompassed everything that Encumber was about. It was an experiment really that bonded two souls that would have never come together under any other circumstances than music. I would say this song was the defining moment for us as a band.
Death Of Me –
Simply put, this song is about my struggle with addiction and how I’m a third generation alcoholic who struggled with addictive behavior as well as my realization that if I can’t get in under control, it will eventually be the Death Of Me.
Away From Me –
This is a tough and touchy subject for anyone. Like many people who suffer a loss of a loved one, I was looking for someone to blame when my grandparents passed away. I was very close to them and I was upset that had they only lived a few months longer, they would have met their newly born grand daughter. It was at that point, that I swore to myself that I would never again believe in God or conform to any type of religion.
