about Katy Eggleton

“Katy Eggleton sings with honesty. In an age of vocal gymnastics, she honors the strong melodies of her songs with a pure and direct delivery. Believable and trustworthy, her comfortable voice sounds like she’s about to let us in on a fond secret.

On the stage she takes charge with the poise of someone far older than her years. Off-stage she is compassionate and deeply concerned for others. This makes her a watchful observer—a precious gift in a songwriter. In her lyrics she makes use of careful and quirky observations to paint memorable scenes and characters. Her songs show us sides of ourselves we might not have noticed or appreciated. She notices and appreciates.

At sixteen, Katy Eggleton is already making relevant contemporary music, so it might surprise one to learn that a scroll through her iPod playlists hardly reveals a single female singer role model. She identifies with the music of male alternative rock bands, and she is fashioning her own uniquely feminine brand to mingle with them on the airwaves. Like many of the bands she listens to, she has one foot squarely in the moment and the other planted in a rich musical past. From The Format all the way back to the Beatles, The Killers back to ELO, Katy moves gracefully and with a long musical gait.

Take time-honored tones, wise yet sensitive lyrics, and add a strong young woman to deliver them and you have the recipe for the music of Katy Eggleton.”

Update for Winter/Spring 2007

posted January 23rd at 8:02pm

Hey, all! Be a friend and a fan at www.myspace.com/katyeggleton and www.purevolume.com/katyeggleton. If you want to download her songs, search for Katy Eggleton on iTunes! And, if you prefer the old fashioned CD with 12-panels of lyrics and liner notes, please buy it at www.katyeggleton.com and we'll ship it to you right away! Katy's been busy! At sixteen, Katy accomplished a lot in writing the songs and recording her album 'A Hand to Hold' and she won't stop working on music. Following the release of her album, she formed a band to go out to play shows. That sounds backwards! Her album was the result of a huge songwriting project, and her producer Rob Seals invited some great studio musicians to record her songs. Intending to go live with her music, she wanted to make music with musicians her own age. She signed on Tyler, Conor, Oren and Justin to back her live act and she's been doing shows at local clubs like diPiazza's in Long Beach and Hogue Barmichael's in Newport Beach. She also played a couple of special events at the beach in San Clemente and at South Coast Plaza, and at her school! Katy and all her band members are seniors at her school in south Orange County. So, they've been rehearsing and playing a few gigs and Katy's all the while busy with her producer writing more songs. She's starting to rehearse those with her band and will showcase her new songs for the Orange County Music Awards in March. Following the OCMA gig and a bunch of rehearsals with her new music, they will go into the studio to record Katy's second album! Meanwhile, Katy and all the band members have been busy applying to colleges. Katy has applied to 13 colleges and as we write this she's in the middle of audition season. Not only does she need the grades, the SAT scores, and some killer essays to get into these colleges, she's also got to do vocal auditions for music departments. Her top schools, should they love her enough to accept her, are Berklee College of Music (Boston), Belmont University (Nashville), Southern Methodist University (Dallas), and University of Southern California (Los Angeles). Yup. She's a smart cookie and wants to study music in a music town. The Dallas connection doesn't fit there, but SMU is a top-notch university with an awesome music department. We'll keep you posted on these! Katy's never been one to laze around and do nothing, so she's rounding out her busy music schedule with a performance at her school's talent showcase, where she'll sing "Scars" by Papa Roach, just because she feels like it. And the school musical is coming up in March, where she's the featured singer for the song "Too Darn Hot!" in 'Kiss Me, Kate' a musical comedy. Let's see, that's Classical, Broadway, Alternative, Punk, Pop, and Rock that Katy's busy rehearsing right now. Wish her luck with those college auditions and we'll be back with more updates soon! Thanks and love, Team Katy
