about Johnny Gonzales
Crossing the language border with a great variety of musical styles from Pop, Rock, Latin, R&B, and Dance, Johnny Gonzales drives his songs pass the musical limit with passion and intensity. His new September 2006 album release Secrets of My Love, a collection of original love songs, unveils his vocal and songwriting talents on a new level giving us a brief, but in depth, glimpse into all the music that moves Johnny. These talents were not built in a day they were wonderfully crafted and matured through time.
From his early beginnings in Dallas, Texas in Mariachi, Flamenco, and Classical guitar to his most recent musical travels abroad where he distributed his Rock En Espanol to fans in the U.K., Spain, France, Sweden and Israel, these adventurous roads have proven to be the cultivating groundwork for Johnny Gonzales. Performing mainly as a Rock and Jazz guitarist in several bands in the North Texas music scene, which received some notoriety, as well as staying busy as a solo guitarist, there was a larger pull to move forward into undiscovered territories of his musical craft. Johnny moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he began a five year study of singing and songwriting with some of Nashville's hottest up and coming producers, songwriters and musicians in the Pop, Country, Dance and Christian music business.
It was also there where Johnny connected successfully and grounded his craft through events such as the finals at the Gibson Guitar Competition, performances at the Gospel Music Association Conference and also refining his studio session chops as a vocalist and songwriter. Moving back to Dallas in 2001 he became the lead male vocalist/guitarist for a top-40 band performing at such places as Memphis, Cool River, Carson's Palace and performing to hundreds of people at festivals and private/corporate parties such as the Fort Worth Art Festival and the Dallas Policeman's Ball just to name a few.
Also in 2001, his first original Rock En Espanol singles "Tatuaje Mi Corazon" and "Perdida De Tempo" were released and added onto digital satellite music services and distributed abroad. Finishing the top-40 gig, Johnny continued to move beyond his comfort zone when he was invited to perform an all Latin vocal and acoustic set at the 2002 Taste of Dallas festival where he was greatly received for his renditions of Latin pop artists Alejandro Sanz and Ricky Martin. Johnny recorded his first solo Latin acoustic album adding his own vocal and instrumental arrangements on popular Latin artists such as Juanes, Shakira, and Chayanne to name a few. These new songs inspired a series of recording sessions for the Secrets of My Love album as well as a brand new Christmas album in 2003.
In between his weekly performances he managed to record and arrange his first Latin and English Christmas album, which fans instantly loved. Christmas Time Is Here, Fum, Fum, Fum and an original song Heavens Glorious King were favorites for many listeners. The Christmas album garnered several independent and college radio slots fitting for the Christmas season. Other songs from the Christmas album such as From Our House To Yours and The Coventry Carol would soon lay the post-modern electronic foundation for his current album.
His 2006 Secrets Of My Love album release is a culmination of Johnnys best musical influences on a Pop level fashioned as a compilation of love songs. Refined with League of Artists Producer Charlie Lewis, these new songs not only bring Johnnys songwriting and vocal abilities to light, but also his recording engineering and electronic production talents. Conceptually written about loves many secrets, Johnny sang, wrote, performed and programmed his new songs in house at Brace For Impact Records in Grand Prairie, Texas. Johnny approached this album one love song at a time with just him and his acoustic, but each tune directed him into the many popular styles of music with hints of his Latin influences.
Love has many secrets and with the release of Johnnys current album and subsequent promotional tour the best-kept secrets are finally coming to light, his love for Pop music.
