about Joel Gatlin
Joel Gatlin graduated from The University of Alabama in the mid 80's. For the last 20 years, he has been working in the High Tech Software industry during the day and performing on nights and weekends. Joel has been an entertainer for over 25 years, singing and performing in bands, at weddings, and other special events across the Southeast.
Joel released his first CD in July of 2005, titled “At First Glance”. This CD showcases Joel’s wide vocal range and his ability to perform differing genres of music, setting the stage with hauntingly moving renditions of such timeless ballads as Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and John Berry’s “Change My Mind”. Joel wraps it all up with a vocally soulful version of the R&B classic “Unchain My Heart”.
Joel's major musical influences were, and still are, Vince Gill, Gary Morris, James Taylor, John Berry, Joe Cocker, and The Doobie Brothers. You can hear the definite styles of these artists in Joel's performances.
Having won many singing contests, Joel has performed on such venues as "The Champs of Champps" on the cable network, THE OXYGEN CHANNEL, where he was featured as the winner of the Atlanta Area Champps singing contest. He has also performed at numerous state and local events around the United States.
Joel was also featured at a Singer's Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. He has also performed at other venues in Atlanta, New York City, Nashville, Orlando, Baltimore, San Francisco, on Beale Street in Memphis, and other cities throughout the country. In 2002, Joel started his entertainment company named “Atlanta Entertainment Productions”. His company provides musical entertainment for private parties, weddings, corporate events, and other functions. He also runs a very successful karaoke business through his company.
In August of 2003, Joel won the title of "The SuperStar of Suwanee" by competing in a summer long singing contest held by the City of Suwanee, GA. Joel won out of a group of over several hundred people who tried to get into the contest throughout the summer. The finals were held on August 9th and Joel won the title.
In 2004, Joel was voted the BellSouth Most Valuable Player at an Atlanta Braves Home Game. This is an award voted on by the fans in the stands where the contestants perform a song, it is then played on the big screen in the ballpark and then the winner is selected by the vote of the fans based on their cheers.
In 2004, 2005, and 2006 Joel sang the National anthem in Atlanta for the Gwinnett Gladiator's ECHL Hockey Team (Farm League for Atlanta Thrashers NHL Hockey Team).
