about JDowMusic
I attended Berklee School of Music, Boston MA. in the early seventies, and later studied at University of Maine at Augusta's jazz music program, which was formulated by Chuck Winfield of "Blood,Sweat, and Tears" fame. Memorable teachers included the famed jazz trombonist Roswell Rudd (Woody Herman, Carla Bley bands) who taught me composition. I performed primarily at that time country novelty, and jazz western swing, sitting in with blues, and rock bands which is where I started in my teens. Although not performing live at this time, you can check out samples of my blues slide style non pedal steel recordings, and educational material on this site. I have written a series of tablature books, with matching CDs on Lap Steel Guitar. These books are available on eBay through eBay seller dow207. The songs included here on the JDowMusic jukeboxalive page are in fact examples from several of my book/CDs titled: "Vintage Lap Steel & Slide Guitar Instruction for Blues", and " Lap Steel & Slide Guitar for Blues in E Tuning". To check out my more traditional non pedal steel playing (western swing/ novelty vaudeville/ country blues) go to : www.myspace.com/jdowmusic.
The 1st song I have uploaded to this page is my version of the old Blind Willie Mctell tune most well known as played by Duane Allman "Statesboro Blues". This is example 11 in my book/CD title "Vintage Lap Steel & Slide Guitar for Blues". I used my 1939 Rickenbacher model 59 for the steel/ slide work on this song. The 2nd song from this album/ book/CD is my take on the Elmore James song "Done Somebody Wrong". I used a 1940's Rickenbacher double neck for the steel/ slide work on this one. The 3rd song I uploaded from this album/ CD/book is my version "Drunken' Hearted Woman". Robert Johnson's song "Drunken Hearted Man" was converted to a blues classic by Elvin Bishop live with Duane Allman during one of the Fillmore live sessions around 1970. This then is my version of Elvin's version of Robert Johnson's tune. I used a 1950's Valco made Silvertone lap steel on this one.
The 3rd song is my take off on Elmore James's tune "Madison Blues", as played by the original Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green. I used a 1939 Epiphone Electar Zephyr Hawaiian lap steel guitar on this one. It is an example written out in easy tab in my book "Lap Steel & Slide Guitar for Blues in E Tuning". The 4th tune "Tell The Truth" I uploaded from this same album/book/CD. Search ebay seller dow207 to purchase these titles. Click onto my eBay guides for in depth info on several of my favorite model vintage lap steel guitars.
