about dgb01
I have started writing music again, in early 2008, after giving it up in 1992 when I was only 18 years old. Big mistake. I've regretted it ever since. I was taught the basics by my late grandfather, he used to play the church organ, then I taught myself the rest.
Back in the early nineties I had a Korg M1 and Kawai K1.
Now I have:
Korg M3 Xpanded (6 octave version), with Radias V2 installed.
Mellotron Strings/flute/choir multisamples.
Roland VK8.
Roland PK5 midi pedals used as bass pedals.
Mackie 12 track stereo mixer.
The music that inspires me is prog rock of the seventies, you know, Genesis, Yes, Camel, ELP, Renaissance, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield and Rush. As well as later bands like Marillion and IQ, and now bands like Dream Theater. Another main influence, especially for the stuff I do now, is Tangerine Dream.
Question: Why do I want to write music in a style and sound that was already covered over 30 years ago very successfully? Plagarism?
Answer: I was born in 1974 and missed the opportunity to see live tracks like Close To The Edge, Suppers Ready, Tarkus and Echoes as they came out as fresh pieces of music. I have listened to them for the last 20 odd years and they still mean the same to me now as they did when I first remember them. Music is very personal and if it can evoke emotion and warmth as prog does with me, then that is a special thing. I hope that I can add something worthwhile.
If you only have time to listen to a couple of tracks, listen to 'The Big One' or 'Dreaming of Tangerines', they basically sum me up!
Don't blame me for the naff wallpaper on the dining room wall - thats the wife's hideous choice! If you don't like the music, just think what I've got to stare at when I'm playing!

December 22nd at 6:56pmThanks for the comments, man. "The Big One" and "Another Gib One" are great. The kind of music that takes you out there. You'd do great with a Propellerheads or an FLStudio program, too. You should look into it. Great work. thanks again.
