about Incredible Yacht Control:
Incredible Yacht Control began existing when Bret Vogel needed someplace to put emotions and ideas while his full time band, Crosstide, was busy finishing their 3rd record, Walls of Home. Vogel cranked the majority of these lo-fi jangle pop tunes out in 2 months. Recorded between a 4 track and a laptop, these songs sat on Vogel's hard drive for a few months before he decided anyone ought to hear them. A few months and burned CDs later, Vogel had enlisted his primary encouragement throughout the project as a backing band. Members of New Zealand's The Mint Chicks, and Vogel's own Crosstide composed the live act, and a few shows were played around Portland OR.
Largely a creative experiment, Incredible Yacht Control tracks are usually comprised of first takes with as little second guessing as possible. Ideas are used without concern for innovation or imitation. Lyrics were written often times stream of conscious, and other times simply by cutting up and pasting together sections of science fiction books. While the approach was rather absentminded, the finished product is somehow focused. Anyone who knows Bret will tell you that any sort of focus coming from his direction is an achievement.
