about Beth Longwell
Beth’s songwriting is shaped by her life experiences, and at twenty-five years old, she has quite a bit of life experience to sing about. Beth grew up in a rural town in Colorado and at the age of fifteen, moved with her family to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her musical tastes grew as she traveled to Chile, Uruguay, and Brazil with fellow musicians from school.
After moving back to the USA and finishing high school in Decatur, IL, Beth packed her bags and headed to Boston, where she started at Berklee College of Music. Although Beth enjoyed performing, she wanted to use her musical skills to do more, so she enrolled in Berklee’s Music Therapy program.
During Beth’s time at Berklee, opportunities for performance and musical outreach abounded. She participated in recording an original song dedicated to survivors of domestic violence, and was also part of a recording for the soundtrack to an independent film. During the summer of 2007 Beth and several other Berklee music therapy students traveled to Kenya to volunteer in orphanages for two weeks. They brought their Music Therapy skills and compassion to children affected by poverty, violence, and HIV/AIDS.
After five years in Boston, Beth moved to Napa, CA to do a six-month music therapy internship at the Veteran’s Home of CA in Yountville. She then began working at VA Palo Alto and is currently a music therapist on an acute inpatient psychiatry unit there.
Throughout the many changes and opportunities for growth in Beth’s life, one thing has remained constant: her love and dedication to music. Her songwriting has flourished over the past few years, and she is currently in the process of recording an album. As Beth continues to grow, so does her music, and music fans can expect many great things to come from this artist.
