Rock Concert Etiquette Part 2

Last blog we talked about the importance of arriving on time to the concert venue so as not to disturb your fellow concertgoers and the performers. And punctuality is definitely a good rule to live by, concert or not. But what happens after you've arrived on time at the venue... what are the rules?

First of all, follow the rules of the venue. They're usually posted on the venue's website and all around the venue itself, and sometimes they're even printed right on your ticket. Follow the rules of the venue for the sake of the security, other concertgoers, the performers, and yourself. If you're not supposed to have a camera and you brought one, keep it powered off and safely in your bag. Taking pictures during performances will likely alert security and have them coming after you and will also distract the performers on stage. You're there to enjoy them play, right? So enjoy the show and take pictures with your mind, instead.... no flash required.

Minimize trips in and out of the concert during the show. Try and take your bathroom breaks, drink runs, and trips to the merch table before and after the show, and minimize movement during the performance. Weaving in and out of the crowd to get to your destination will disturb and irritate the other people trying to enjoy the show, not to mention the time you'll lose waiting in lines and navigating your way around when you could be enjoying the show.

Finally, behave if you're in the pit. The whole point of the pit is providing space where you can dance, flail around, yell, and have fun, so do those things, but stay cognizant enough of your surroundings to not invade anyone's personal space and risk hurting someone.
