Part 2: The Secret of Effective Band Practice

Know Your Roles. Choose a Leader of the Pack. The leader of the band practice can keep everyone on track while encouraging band members to share their ideas and goals at the right time. A good leader should lead, not dictate, so choose someone who will be focused on shared goals. Having a leader for the practice will make the time together more productive - someone has to take the reigns in a group of people, and choosing the right person will keep all of you moving in a forward direction without getting bogged down by differences of opinion and goals that leave you at a stalemate.

Be Goal-Oriented. As with any group, it's important that, as a band, you're all moving in the same direction. Regular band practices are a great opportunity to consistently check in with each other

Keep it Real. Remember that being in a band is a lot like being in a family; you care about each other, have a lot in common, and quarreling is inevitable. But making sure you communicate with each other will keep your band living harmoniously and making beautiful music.
