Musician Bios That Rock: Part 1

A great musician bio is your opportunity to let visitors to your JukeboxAlive profile know what you - and your music - are all about. And since you'll usually only have a few paragraphs to get this message across, it might be helpful to keep in mind the purpose of your musician bio. Your musician bio is important for these reasons: first, your profile should be interesting enough that it engages readers to listen to your music, and maybe even buying your album or tickets to your show. The second purpose of your bio is to give the media information about you when they're covering your shows or spotlighting local artists, etc.

Think about it this way: Say a music reporter wants some background information on you for a featured preview of upcoming shows, so they start researching for their article. If they arrive on your JBA profile and find either no bio or one without a lot of helpful information, they might move on in frustration... and you're left without the free publicity. That scenarios is one of many reasons why having a great musician bio is extremely important. And it should be a fun collaboration between you, your fellow band mates, friends and family that know you better than anyone, and you may even be able to get a few fans involved in the process. Introducing yourselves and your music to the world should be a welcome opportunity to shine...and, after all, who doesn't like talking about themselves?

Next blog we'll talk about some key points to keep in mind when you're seeking to write a musician bio that rocks.
